December’s traditional Yule Celebration, was marked with the Mōdraniht Moot, the celebration of the the Winter Solstice of the first worlds. Traditionally the turning point, as the longest night of the year and the beginning of the lengthening of days, Mōdraniht signifies the victory of light and goodness over darkness and evil.
In modern times Hengeyokai celebrate Mōdraniht by staying up late or all night, a practice known as Shab Chera meaning ‘night gazing’. Mōdraniht , translates from the old tongue as ‘Mothers Night’ referring to Luna’s role as surrogate mother to the Hengeyokai , and sees Hengeyokai Sentai revel under Luna’s light, eating fruits and nuts, and drinking a potent wine under an often ‘blood’ or new born moon.
As in previous years, Dokk Refurninn’s Mōdraniht celebration was held at the Sentai’s Cearn, with the Hengeyokai Sentai inviting outlanders into the Cearn proper. The event was well attended by both the local Sentai, colonist and outlander visitors to the Outpost. Crews from many worlds, who make regular stop overs in the system were represented with Captains from several vessels making port for the evening.
While the guests continued to celebrate into the early morning hours, the Sentai’s Warriors bowed out early, to participate in the Cŵn Annwn, or Wyld Hunt, a Hengeyokai tradition not shared with Outlanders.
Not long after the Sentai’s Homid warriors departed, then the much talked about, but rarely seen Sentai’s Dyrets bust from the darkness, startling several of the gathered revelers. With the Dragon Kappinn Dreki’s great wings scattering the floating lanterns above the Caern as she circled the standing stones, and bellowing a great roar into the night announcing their arrival, followed by several of the Sentai’s quadruped members bust into the gathering led by a Direwolf and much smaller dark furred fox.
The Dyrets spent little time with the gathered guests, dashing though the gathering as the Caern’s Astria Portia dialed a far gate. Only moments after their sudden and disconcerting arrival, the trio had slipped though the shimmering portal of the Stargate and departed for worlds unknown. While the incident caused some concern and discussion among the outlanders present, Rangers and other Administrative personnel present or on detail for the event were tight lipped about the details of the Dryret’s appearance. As Gaia’nan Sionnach and the rest of the Sentai’s Ahourn did not return until late Monday afternoon, these questions have yet to be answered.
What occurred during the Cŵn Annwn has also raised some questions as Casidhe retuned though the Outpost’s main Gate with the Ahroun Jager and Elishandra ; all three showing signs of combat. Casidhe in particular sporting numerous large wounds to her face and torso.
What ever the details, the Sentai seemed to have an eventful evening. Several visitors are already speaking of attending the Ostra moot at the Vernal Equinox, which proves to be just as primal, if n a different way than Modraniht.
The next social event the Outpost is scheduled to host is much more civil, with the Mid Winter Ball to be held at the end of February.
