New Years Day was the bookend on 2513, and the beginning of 2514 at the Dokk Refurinn Outpost. The final month of the busy year found the outpost a hub of activity in the sector.
December’s traditional Yule Celebration, was marked with the Mōdraniht Moot, the Winter Solstice of the first worlds. The turning point, as the longest night of the year and the beginning of the lengthening of days, Mōdraniht signifies the victory of light and goodness over darkness and evil.
In modern times Hengeyokai celebrate Mōdraniht by staying up late or all night, a practice known as Shab Chera meaning ‘night gazing’. Mōdraniht , translates from the old tongue as ‘Mothers Night’ referring to Luna’s role as surrogate mother to the Hengeyokai , and sees Hengeyokai Sentai revel under Luna’s light, eating fruits and nuts, and drinking a potent wine under an often ‘blood’ or new born moon.
Dokk Refurninn’s Mōdraniht celebration was held at the Sentai’s Cearn, the first time the Hengeyokai Sentai has invited outlanders to the Cearn proper.
December also saw several construction projects being completed at the outpost, the largest the orbiting of the Highport. Financed by the Protectorate’s Merchant Caste, the Highport is a full service port and cargo transfer point. Capable of servicing the largest slip capable vessels Highport is equipped with a docking ring and 4 large docking hangers. Each hanger is capable of handling the popular BBI Calliope class vessels or several smaller craft.
The orbiting of Highport greatly increases the Outpost’s port facilities and positions it to handle the heavier traffic moving in the tri-galaxy region as well as acting as a ‘home port’ for several Merchant Vessels. The station replaces several of the stand alone ‘docks’ which previously linked orbital vessels to the surface outpost.
Colonial Engineers were also busy on the surface, giving the popular Luna Bar a facelift, replacing many of the interior fixtures while reinforcing the exterior walls to meet the Outposts current engineering standards. The Outpost’s dining facility has also been expanded and opened to visitors as well as a mixed use facility and diner called “The Mess”.
GaiaGen’s Engineering team spent the month installing new facilities in the Outpost’s Medbay. The upgrades enhanced the facility’s already impressive medical capabilities with the latest technologies and supplies available in the Protectorate.
Other minor improvements were carried out under the Administration’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), including replacing the temporary wooden canopy structures, with more robust manufactured platforms. While certainly not ‘high tech’ the tree top structures which ring the Outpost, provide a valuable defensive feature for the Outposts defenders and security forces.
While this work was being carried out, the outpost was not completely quiet. Social issues between the Necris enclave aboard Valentine Station and several colonist and visitors came to a boiling point recently. Reports indicate that the sudden break up of the Necris Blademaiden Murasaki and Colonist Erich Zufreur who had been in a romantic relationship, triggered the current conflict. Mr Zufreur was recently spotted with a blond outlander, the resulting break up has sent ripples though the Necris enclave and appears to be the motive behind Mr Zufreur’s recent shooting. Reports indicate the Mr. Zufreur is in stable condition at an off world facility.
Meanwhile, Murasaki’s emotional condition has seemed to have an effect on the entire Necris enclave. Several of the enclave’s members, constructs and AI’s have visited the surface in the last several days usually finding some sort of trouble or mischief to get into. While the Necris situation plays out, life for the rest of the Outpost goes on.
Most recently the Administration hosted an impromptu Aerospace Diving expedition. Several intrepid jumpers, took flight from HighPort’s landing deck, to hurtle down upon the Outpost’s quad. Using a variety of chutes, from the latest high tech Ion and Contra-Grav rigs, to the old favorite Silk cutes, jumpers wowed the assembled spectators landing with precision on the quad’s hexagonal tiles.
For a ‘quiet’ month, much was occurring.
