The Colony hosted the Annual Winter Gala, also known as the Deep Winter Ball Sunday 24 February 2513. The large social gathering was held in the Colony’s main quad, under the Great Tree Iusaaset’s branches.
The Administration once again went all out, playing host to visitors from dozens of star systems. The Guests and colonists were treated to a winter wonderland, despite the Colony’s normal subtropical climate. The engineering team, using an adaptive shield harmonic, lowered the quad’s temperature utilizing the colony’s shield array, causing a light snow to fall though out the event.
The quad, decked in this icy veneer, was transformed into a vast gathering hall. revelers danced and mingled among a buffet of local foods and drinks. The well attended outing catered to both long time colonists and visitors passing though the system, with the colony’s reputation as a gregarious host drawing crowds from distant systems and non-alinged worlds.
Khan Jubilynn and the other Hengeyokai of the local Sentai mingled with the guests, joining in with the festivities and dancing. The Deepwinter Gala is a traditional social event among the Hengeyokai, when the colonies traditionally open their doors and share their hospitality during the long dark or winter.
The celebration continued well after the formal end of the event, with a quiet ‘after party’ occurring around the large fire pit set up in the south end of the quad. There, parties traded stories and discussed the very nature of the ‘verse itself, with the Khan herself taking questions. Despite the long exchange, one visitor had this to say of the discussion, “There was a saying on Botany Bay Colony, anyone who wanted to get a straight answer out of the Khan was to look at every reply in a mirror while hanging upside down from the ceiling. ”
Next ont the Colony’s Social Calender, is the Traditional Vernal Equinox a time of fertility and celebration, a much less .. formal, and clothed event than the Gala.
