House Hengeyokai Claims Laandsrat Seat

In a shock, Lady Jubilynn Lane stode into the weekly Laandsrat meeting in Al Raqis City and claimed a seat on the worlds Laandsrat council.  Witness Report the Hengeyokai Khan, escorted by a half dozen retainers and colonists from the Hengeyokai colony on Botany Bay arrived via shuttle as the meeting was getting underway. The party then made its way from the landing pads to the Courthouse where the Laandsrat convenes regularly.  Shyaa Fael announced her entrance and intentions, as the escorts filled in behind her.

The surprised, almost shocked look in Magistrate Joan Varghon’s face as the Hengeyokai Kahn, acting as Emissary, claimed the very seat next to her on the dais.  What interest the hengeyokai have in Mu Draconis remains to be seen. A unnamed source in the Khan’s escort claims Jubilynn’s return to the desert world, was at the behest of the Hengeyokai’s Elder Council. Little is known of the inner workings of the Hengeyokai. While they are wide spread, operating colonies in many deep black drifts along the slip stream, they are not very plentiful, and are often withdrawn from the day to day operations, preferring to let the colonist themselves handle the day to day operations, especially with outlanders. How the appointment of Lady Lane, to the Mu Draconis Laandsrat fits into the Hengeyokai’s agenda remains to be seen.

Jubilynn wasn’t the only new member to claim a seat on the Laandsrat. Several non-native houses and organizations stepped forth to claim representation. It seems several sources learned of the Emperor’s order to Magistrate Varghon to open the council to those with the “Means and finances” to be so represented.  This new inclusion has predictably ruffled the feathers of long time Laandsrat members such as House Morloch and the Myrmidon Order.  The members both new and old, who claimed seats last evening include:

Dr. Eliza Karsadia Deerhunter , House of Hoto Nagi Zion
Khaliifa Rashad of House Morloch
KRakkenAres. ProConsul to the Myrmidon Order
Calina Tereshchenko, House Shanjian
Commandant Lux Umbra, of the SSFS
Lady Joan al Jofat. Chief Magistrate, Al Raqis
Khan Jubilynn Lane, Emissary of the Hengeyokai
Registered Companion Fā-Le Yán, zhíshì to the High Priestess and Chief of Staff of Bó’ài Hónglián House
Lady Zenobie Augusta Baxton, Countess Walsingham, House Zenobia of Albion, Union of Allied Planets
Lady Ariadne Fall, humble servant of the Laandsrat and Reverend Mother of the Sinisterhood
Lt. Laser Rainfall of Starfleet Outpost Ouraios

The new members added to the already contentious arguments in the chamber, as the Laandsrat took up several matters including increasing the size of the Beit Dawla, the elected house of representation on Mu Draconis, the confirmation of the appointment of a Defense Minister, and the ongoing Ta’Seti issue: each issue proving to be more divisive than the next.

Laandsrat Meeting - Khan Lane and Shyaa with the others on the Dais look on as a packed courtroom listens to the debat between the members over the Defense Minister's appointment.

Starting with the Beit Dawla expansion to match the new larger size of the Laandsrat, the council began to form into two camps, the Old Guard and the Star Born.  After much debate , a motion carried to expand the Beit Dawla from its current four members to six.  During the discussions the Old Guard, Lady  Joan al Jofat, Lady Rashad and Lord Praxis continually showed their elitist attitude and distain towards the ‘common’ and ‘lower’ houses and people as well as a growing xenophobia against outsiders arriving on world and having a say in its governance.

The nomination and confirmation of Doctor Isaac of the USD as the world’s Defense Minster further separated the two parties. While many of the newly seated members saw the value of empowering an individual to organize and coordinate the varied defense forces of the world against off world aggression KRakkenAres,  ProConsul to the Myrmidon Order questioned the value of the position, the limits of the minister’s authority as well as the creditionals of Doctor Isaac.  His vocal scorn was not surprising, as the Myrmidon Order has a history of aggression agisnt the other citizens of Mu Draconis, having invaded the world a little over a year ago. The Order is also in a defacto alliance with the current invaders, the Ta’Seti as the two share a home system and consider each other ‘cousins’. The Myrmidon Order refuses to defend the world against the Ta’Seti aggression.  After a second round of heated debate, the motion carried and Minister Isaac was confirmed In a 5-2-1 vote. The voting went along these lines:

Aye
Khan Jubilynn Lane, Emissary of the Hengeyokai
Lady Zenobie Augusta Baxton, Countess Walsingham, House Zenobia of Albion, Union of Allied Planets
Registered Companion Fā-Le Yán, zhíshì to the High Priestess and Chief of Staff of Bó’ài Hónglián House
Lt. Laser Rainfall of Starfleet Outpost Ouraios
Dr. Eliza Karsadia Deerhunter , House of Hoto Nagi Zion

Nay
KRakkenAres. ProConsul to the Myrmidon Order
Commandant Lux Umbra, of the SSFS

Abstain
Khaliifa Rashad of House Morloch

It’s interesting to note two of the independent militaries voted against this measure passing, the level of cooperation the new Minister will find with these groups remains to be seen; in fact, the ProConsul brazenly threated the Minster’s life during the debate.

It would not be the last threat the ProConsul would make. As the topic turned to the Ta’Seti situation, Magistrate Joan al Jofat informed the council that she had entered into private negations with the invaders and had struck a tentative deal: 40% of all spice production for a cease in hostilities.  After this announcement, the meeting degraded into a heated argument, which only intensified when ProConsul KrakkenAres repeatedly threatened the members with death and destruction at the hands of the Ta’Seti. Several Members called for his immediate arrest. Seeing that the meeting was unraveling, Khan Jubilynn suggested the convene until cooler heads could prevail, a suggestion the magistrate quickly pounced upon. The quick end to the meeting,  left many questions about both the Ta’Seti’s motivations and demands, as the magistrate’s story and the Pro Consul’s claims were not consistent with one another. The Laandsrat members quickly dispersed following the meeting.  It is expected the next meeting of this council will be just as heated.  No members were available for comment.
